The History

Opened in 1982 The Anglers Arms is the replacement for the working men’s club when the Forestry Commission took back the castle, where the club had been founded in 1949 by a group of local residents.

The land where the pub now stands was at one time the village Tennis court. The club was disbanded in 1987 and the building stood empty for around eight months. The new owners Brian and Joan Graham held a competition to name the pub, which was won by Pat Morse and aptly named due to its location by both the North Tyne and Kielder Burn, The Anglers Arms.

After their departure the pub was bought at auction by Alan Craggs and has since seen a few Licence’s names above its door. With its beautiful location, friendly locals and tranquil riverside setting we hope you enjoy your visit to our hidden away watering hole. Oh and as you leave at night if you see The Grey Lady of the Castle give her a wave.

The Anglers Arms is now owned by Malcolm Readman, a well-known and respected operator with over 50 years of licenced trade experience.
